Happy Sweet 16 to the daughter of the late Kobe Bryant Gianna Bryant. Gigi would have turned 16 last Sunday (May 1). She and her NBA star father were killed in a helicopter crash in 2020. To commemorate and honor her legacy of supporting underprivileged women and girls in sport, Nike has designed a new sneaker.

Nike released “The Mambacita Sweet 16” on Gianna’s birthday. And it’s sweet too. It features a black snakeskin pattern to represent “Gigi’s Mambacita Mentality”. Gigi’s mother, Vanessa, says the shoe represents Gigi’s resilient spirit and the love she had not only for the game, but also for her family, friends and community.

Proceeds from the shoes will go to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring Kobe and Gianna’s legacy by supporting underserved athletes, according to Nike.

The shoe sold out in 2 minutes.
