While most people associate Nike along with basketball and hip-hop culture, they also drew inspiration from the extreme aesthetic of punk and metal. Of course, the Air Jordan 1 is the most recognizable shoe due to the mass association with rappers, but the company has been linked to metal for a long time. Look at any photo of a thrash metal band such as Metallica Where Killer from the ’80s and’ 90s and you’ll see them sporting the iconic checkered logo on their feet.

Nike Air Max 270 React

The Nike Air Max 270 React the line included several pieces inspired by the artistic period, including these heavy metal inspired kicks. Much like a classic heavy metal album cover from Iron maiden Where Judas Priest, the shoes feature deep and dark color choices but varied for its aesthetic, with a deep purple and deep royal blue paired with a vibrant green. A golden swoosh that appears with a dark black coating crowns it.

Shinedown x Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG

Inspired by Shinedownthe 2018 record Warning warning, these classics Nike AJ 1 High are perfect for any fan of the group. They feature a golden yellow with a stark black and white to make the colors stand out, while a black exclamation mark, just like the album cover, is displayed on the side of the shoe.

Deftones x Nike Dunk High

With Deftoneship-hop influences in their music, it’s not entirely surprising that Nike teamed up with them for a shoe collaboration. They brought the Dunk highs a sleek green and black aesthetic with a small white Deftones logo etched into the black leather at the bottom side of the shoe.

Dinosaur Jr. x Nike SB Dunk High

Back in 2007, Dinosaur Jr. have their own Dunk Highs designed for skateboarding, with a space-themed silver and purple colourway. They also have a little purple Dinosaur Jr. logo on one side of the shoe, while their unofficial Peace Sign Guy mascot is on the other side.

Melvins x Nike Dunk High Pro SB

Melvins actually got some collaborations, but the Dunk High Pro SB in Charcoal Black captured their best aesthetic. The shoes are as punky as it gets with a dark red background, an all-black exterior, and a skull and crossbones on the toes.

Slayer x Nike SB Dunk High

It was an obvious choice for Nike to partner with Slayer given the tendency of group members to wear various company tops in promotional photos at the time. The SB Dunk High “Reign In Blood” is clearly inspired by their iconic Reign in blood album and features a dark blood-colored shoe with brown suede and a black toe, check and midsection.

Violent Women x Nike SB Zoom Janoski RM

Nike created the ultimate heavy metal shoe, injecting the genre’s love for studded items with their Heavy Metal Pack of Terminators and Vandals. The Nike Heavy Metal Vandal Top features a black and gold aesthetic with studs all around the back, and they’ve released other pairs in white as well.

Head Automatica x Nike Air Force 1 High

Glass jaw branching out Automatic Head got their own Nike collaboration with an Air Force 1 High Desert Brown. The shoe features a brown and white exterior, while the tongue has a touch of pink. The top of the sneaker has a subtle green band logo engraved on it.

Sub Pop Records x Nike SB Blazer Elite

Nike has partnered with Sub-pop discs for a nice pair of SB Blazer Elites, sending it back to their story spearhead of punk music, especially throughout the 90s grunge scene. The shoes sport a bright yellow paired with a subtle gray and black colourway to make them stand out, along with their iconic box logo on the tongue and back of the shoe.
