Throughout its âAthletesâ digital series, NIKE, Inc. has showcased the incredible accomplishments of such figures as Eliud Kipchoge, Bebe Via and Dylan Alcott. For its latest feature film, the North American brand has broadened its scope beyond traditional sports to shine the spotlight on Megan Thee Stallion.
With over a billion streams and nearly 37 million monthly listeners, the Houston native (birth name Megan Jovon Ruth Pete) has become a force in both the music and pop culture spaces. Over the past three years, the 26-year-old has become an ambassador for the ‘Hot Girl’ movement, which has encouraged women around the world to be themselves shamelessly. The “WAP” co-star has championed the empowerment of women through her music, but also her personal story. Part of this ‘rise to fame’ includes a running track before Megan Thee Stallion, playing basketball and testing volleyball because that’s what others have told her she should. do, as discussed in Nike’s latest âAthletesâ spot. And although she does not currently participate in organized sport, âyouâ self-proclaimed âhot girl coachâ continues to function with an impressive level of fitness, agility and strength.
As the Texas-born artist states in her play “Athletes”, she trains five days a week, repeats 12 hours of dancing, and performs fairly regularly in front of 50,000 people, squatting about 50% of the time during these shows. So while she might not be in the same conversations as LeBron James or Serena Williams, Megan Thee Stallion deserves the credit.
Although her most recent feature film is her most significant project with the Swoosh, the Houston-born artist has already appeared in campaign imagery for AMBUSH’s neon green Nike Dunk High collaboration. This in itself is a great achievement given how selective Nike has always been in sharing its platform with individuals. Still, these recent moves got us at Sneaker News thinking about what a Megan Thee Stallion x Nike project would look like. The BTS collaborator may need more time in the mainstream consciousness before having her own shoe – especially as a non-athlete – but the partnership could be a big step for the North American brand. People like Travis Scott have demonstrated how lucrative and influential joint efforts with creators can be, and as one of the most popular women in music, Megan The Stallion would certainly measure up on both fronts. . If anything happens in this budding relationship, we plan to launch in the summer of 2022 to allow all Hot Girls – new and old – to get ready.
