VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A Hampton Roads native and Coast Guard member needs your help to see his Virginia-Beach themed shoe come to life.
“I said to myself why not? I’ve always had this idea that if I were to collaborate with a brand and design a sneaker, my first design would be based on Virginia Beach.
Jones’ design uses the color scheme from the famous “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” painting, with varying shades of blue to represent water and a beige outsole for the sand. It also includes the Oceanfront’s infamous “no curse” signs, a trident for King Neptune, and musical symbols to pay homage to the city’s musical legends.
âEverything about King Neptune is awesome. So the trident is the coolest part for me. You know the musical note, because you know the music legends, we have music legends that are iconic from anywhere, but they all come from that place, which drives him crazy. Like Timbaland, Clipse, Pusha T, they all went to the same high school as me.
And don’t forget Pharrell Williams, creator of Something in the Water and music superstar. He’s a graduate of Princess Anne.
The contest winner receives a copy of their shoe design and the personalized shoe will be available to the public for purchase. The contest is not affiliated with Nike. However, Jones hopes this competition will be the catalyst to start a new career as a sneaker designer.
” This is the dream ! For Nike to reach out, Adidas, Pharrell, even Pusha T. The design is on a Nike shoe, but I can put it on any shoe, it’s my design. This is the hopeful result.
Jones’ sneaker has reached the final round, but the account says he will change his selection system after the problems. Rather than a public vote, a committee of “people you trust in the SB / dunk community” will rank their top picks and the winner will be announced later this week.
